Cherif,

I’ve read your blog and found your advice regarding consulting/interviews/recruitment to be very helpful. I’m graduating from undergrad business school next month and I decided that I wanted to try and go work for McKinsey abroad at the London office. It seems like you have a lot of experience not only working for McKinsey, but helping to recruit too.

I’m particularly curious about the resume and cover letter part of the application process. I have great skills and work experience, a great education, and I’m confident that I’d do great on a case interview… but my problem is just landing that interview. I have applied with a few other consultancies and it seems like my resume/cover letter get weeded out right off the bat. In the resume, should I be trying to convey the fact that I have experiencing doing the things that BA’s at McKinsey do? For instance, I have a track record of great building great client relations, I have history of putting-together and delivering presentations, I’ve even put together market size estimate models and revenue growth models.

Should I be telling the recruiter that I have experience doing these things, or should I be conveying to the recruiter that I am capable of doing these things for McKinsey by saying that I have done things using the same skills?

Maybe you could send me an example of an “A” resume you’ve seen, blacking out all personal/name/contact info for the applicant and just show me the skill set.

Any help you could provide me would be very appreciated,

Thanks and happy blogging,

Zach
